Walk through any big tech conference in San Francisco and you will see the same thing: hundreds of near-identical booths, the same pipe and drape, the same tote bags. For an AI or SaaS startup competing for attention next to companies with ten times the budget, a 10x10 booth is a hard place to stand out.
That is why more and more tech companies are taking their brand out of the expo hall and onto the street. A custom-wrapped Airstream parked in front of the venue, a vintage van serving coffee next to a coworking space, a branded food truck touring the city for weeks. These pop-ups reach the same founders, engineers and buyers, but in a setting where people actually stop, talk and take a photo.
At AMS (Activation Mobile Studio), tech and AI companies are now one of our fastest growing client groups. Here is why IRL works so well for them, the formats that perform best, and what it looks like in practice.
AI-native payroll platform Niural AI worked with us twice in a row. First, during TechCrunch week, we wrapped a vintage Airstream in Niural purple and parked it in front of a coffee shop in San Francisco, where the team served free coffee with drinks named after their products. Then they came back for a wrapped food truck that toured the city for three runs of three weeks, with an AMS driver moving it to a new coworking space, often a WeWork, every other day.
One vehicle, one wrap, and weeks of visibility exactly where their buyers work. The same playbook works for any tech brand that wants to meet its market face to face.
Most of the tech companies that contact us want one of three formats. Each one solves a different problem.
A vintage Airstream inside a hall instantly becomes the landmark people use to meet up. Fitted out as a lounge, a demo room or a private meeting space, it gives sales teams a place to host real conversations.
Best for: standing out on a crowded expo floor.
Example: at Google's Gemini at Work event, our Airstreams became meeting pods inside the venue.
Many of the best activations happen on the sidewalk. Coffee, snacks or swag in front of the main entrance reaches every attendee, plus everyone else in the neighborhood that week.
Best for: catching attendees on the way in and out, without paying for floor space.
Example: Niural AI's coffee Airstream during TechCrunch week, and Equinix's registration Airstream.
A conference lasts a few days. A touring vehicle keeps the campaign alive for weeks, stopping at coworking spaces, tech campuses and startup neighborhoods on a planned route.
Best for: staying visible for weeks and reaching buyers where they work.
Example: Niural AI's food truck, stopping at a different coworking space every other day.
Tech teams move fast and usually decide on a conference activation a few weeks out. Our model is built for that.

Tip: a full custom wrap needs at least 10 business days, so the earlier you reach out before a conference, the more options you have.
Can we park a branded vehicle in front of a conference venue? Often, yes. It depends on the city, the street and the venue. We look at parking, permits and partner locations, like a coffee shop or coworking space, as part of the plan.
How long does it take to wrap a vehicle? Plan for at least 10 business days for a full custom wrap, from approved design to install.
Can the vehicle move between locations? Yes. For tours, we provide a driver and plan the route, so the vehicle can be at a new location every day or every other day.
What can we offer from the vehicle? Coffee, snacks, swag, product demos or a private meeting space. Food and drink service may need extra permits, which we flag early.
Which cities do you cover? We are based in Los Angeles and regularly activate in San Francisco, San Diego and Las Vegas. Other locations are possible on request.
How much does a tech conference pop-up cost? It depends on the vehicle, wrap, number of days and logistics. Send us your dates and goals and we will send a tailored quote.
